
JAMES SCHULTZ, Esq., Chairperson Emeritus
James D. Schultz is of counsel in Cozen O’Connor’s Philadelphia office. Jim has successfully litigated cases throughout the United States in both state and federal court, concentrating his practice in the prosecution of property damage claims. Jim also has vast experience in handling matters involving complex commercial litigation, product liability and construction defects.
In addition to his litigation practice, Jim works with Cozen O’Connor Public Strategies, LLC, where he advocates for clients with decision makers in all branches of local, state and federal government. This team includes former elected and appointed public officials at all levels, and professionals who have knowledge and experience to create winning strategies for protecting client’s interests, presenting their positions and ensuring that their voices are heard. Immediately prior to joining the firm, Jim served in the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania where he worked closely with the U.S. Attorney on public policy and public awareness initiatives throughout the region. He was the liaison to federal, state and local government officials and agencies, and handled press related matters for the office.
Jim is active in politics and in the community. He serves as an advisor to candidates running for federal, state and local office. Recently, he served on the transition team of Mayor Linda D. Thompson of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Jim is the past Chairman and currently a member of the Executive Committee for the Steward’s Alliance of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. He also serves on the boards of the Athletic Advantage Fund and the Christian Street YMCA and on the facilities committee for the YMCA of Philadelphia and Vicinity.
Admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, Jim has also been admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and the District of New Jersey. Jim earned his law degree from The Widener University School of Law where he served as a student law clerk for Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice Thomas Saylor. He earned his undergraduate degree from Temple University where he was a member of the Temple Owls football team. Immediately following law school, Jim served a law clerk to the late Honorable Vincent A. Cirillo, President Judge Emeritus of the Pennsylvania Superior Court.
